A CHOIR born in Swindon's railway heyday is marking its 85th birthday with a special concert tomorrow night.
Swindon Male Voice Choir was formed by a group of men from Wales who arrived in the town to work in the Great Western Railway works.
It grew in size and popularity and was soon giving regular concerts around the town. Even though the works closed in the 1980s, the choir has continued and now has 58 members.
To mark the anniversary the choir is hosting a celebration concert at the Wyvern Theatre tomorrow with the Aldbourne Band as special guests.
Also on the bill is the young Welsh baritone Matthew Sims.
Tickets cost £7.50 and £8.50 and are available from the Wyvern box office on 01793 524481.
