BIRTHDAY girl Dorothy Sprules had a surprise phone call from her pop idol Sir Cliff Richard.
The 104-year-old great-great-grandmother was serenaded by the superstar live on Radio Swindon after kind-hearted staff at Langton House, in Wroughton, tipped them off.
And Mrs Sprules was thrilled to hear that she is his oldest fan.
"I have been a fan for years," said the pensioner. "I remember him when he was running around in shorts as a young lad.
"I was so pleased when he sang Congratulations down the phone.
"I have never seen him in concert because I haven't been able to afford it. But this has really made my day and I would like to thank everyone."
A party was thrown for her which was attended by members of her family.
And staff at the home presented her with a bouquet and a bottle of port.
According to carer Pamela Higham she enjoys nothing better than a late-night tipple.
She said: "Dorothy doesn't like medicine and prefers a glass that's her secret to a long life."
