PUPILS from St Catherine's RC Primary School in Stratton St Margaret will see one of the largest seeds in the world today when they travel to Cardiff for a Secret Life of Plants workshop.
The giant Coco De Mer seed, an example of which is pictured right, has been loaned to Techniquest in Cardiff Bay by the National Museum of Wales.
Other amazing samples from the plant world will be revealed to the children, including plants with armbands to help them swim and meat-eating plants like the Pitcher plant, which is on loan from Cardiff University. Pupils will learn how to identify plants and explore the ways that seeds can be dispersed.
Cath Winkler, of Techniquest, said: "This is a great chance for pupils to investigate how plants survive and thrive in the wild and explore unusual plant specimens that they may never have seen before.
"The children are always fascinated by the giant Coco de Mer and can hardly believe it is a plant seed so it is a rare treat for them to be able to handle and examine it close-up."
