Ref. 30995-77MOTORISTS were queuing up to get their cars washed at Drove Road Fire Station to raise cash for people with Down's Syndrome and their families.
Swindon Down's Syndrome Group also used the event to remember 10-year-old Mitchell McCarthy, who was killed in a car accident as he crossed Queen's Drive on his bicycle and was hit by a car last week.
Mitchell was born with the syndrome and was a member of the group. A board with his photograph was displayed at the car wash.
Amanda Hancock, treasurer of the group said: "We use the event to have fun, raise awareness, raise money and help people find out a little bit about Down's syndrome as well.
"We are grateful to the fire brigade for allowing us to use their facilities and to Halfords for giving us all the materials we need for the car wash.
"People were asked to give us donations of around £5."
The money will be used to support the work of the Swindon Down's Syndrome Group and the Fire Brigades Benevolent Fund. The group is a lifeline to many, giving information and support to people with Down's Syndrome, their families and carers.
