FAIRFORD eased to another impressive Gloucestershire County League Division One win, this time by seven wickets over mid-table Newent.
They successfully chased a score of 173, which was never enough on a good batting wicket and fast outfield.
Electing to field, Bird's early wicket belied a difficult start for Fairford as he and Peyman struggled in blustery conditions.
M Fabian made a streaky 50 for Newent, but Newport produced another good spell with two wickets and two quick run outs and the innings was wrapped up by Bird, who ripped out the tail taking three wickets in the last over as Newent closed on 172.
Towsend started as if he would see Fairford home in record time, with 10 boundaries against an indifferent attack as he scored 50 out of 72 off the first 10 overs.
Captain Leadbeater then had useful partnerships with both Gray Newport and struck a straight driven four to end 49 not out and win the game.
