WILTSHIRE Over 50s were squeezed out in a nail-biting finish to their match against Somerset at Warminster.
Somerset hit the winning run off the last ball of the game to win by three wickets.
Wiltshire batted first, with most of the early batsmen contributing runs, although no one was able to hold the innings together.
Skipper Colin Webb struck 26, Anthony Warley added 32, Peter Sadler managed 37, while Geoff Edwards with 17 and Andy Foyle's 22 were the other main run getters.
Peter Mathias came in at the death with 16 quick runs and the home side reached a competitive total of 181-9.
Wiltshire bowlers struggled early on to make any impression against the Somerset batsmen and, at 125-1, the visitors seemed to be in control.
But in the space of two overs both batsmen were removed by the ever-improving Peter Sadler and David Howden respectively.
Four more wickets tumbled and with Somerset on 169-7 and needing 23 from the last two overs the result favoured the home side.
However, No 7 John Cook had other ideas and his 34 off 26 balls gave the away side an unexpected victory.
The pick of the bowlers was Peter Sadler with 2-15 and David Howden (3-36).
