Digger sets to work on the parkand-ride site.WORK is now under way on the Wilton park-and-ride site.
Contractor Ashridge Construction Ltd, from Newbury in Berkshire, moved on to the site in the Avenue last month and has been undertaking the earthworks and felling some trees.
Wilton will be the second part of the district to get a park-and-ride site, following the Old Sarum and the Beehive, which serves commuters coming into Salisbury from the Amesbury and Durrington area.
The 380-space Wilton site will cater for commuters coming in from the west using the A36 from Warminster and the A30 from Shaftesbury.
Work on the site, opposite army headquarters UK Land Command, is expected to take 36 weeks, with the park-and-ride open for business early next year.
A spokesman for the Salisbury joint transportation team said work was proceeding well.
"The contractors have been working longer hours to make the most of the good weather," he said.
