DOORSTEP conmen are targeting houses around Swindon.
Police are urging residents to remain vigilant after four distraction burglaries were reported last week.
The bogus callers targeted a house in Swindon town centre, another in Covingham and two more in Walcot on Thursday and Friday.
In all four incidents the male thieves, aged between 20 and 30, knocked at the door without prior appointment purporting to be from utility companies. They told residents they needed to check electricity wiring or water systems.
DC Paul Hacker, of Swindon Police, said: "Clearly there will be times when unexpected visits from utility companies will be genuine. If in doubt don't let them in."
He suggested residents contact the company the caller claims to be representing to check their identification. One of the men is described as 5ft 7ins, medium to stocky build, with short mousy or blond hair.
The second is described as being 6ft with similar colour hair.
Anyone with information is asked to call Swindon Police on 01793 528111.
