The Forum of Private Business (FPB) is concerned that many businesses are still in the dark concerning their obligations under the new Disability Discrimination Act amendments which are due to come into force on October 1, 2004.
This week alone FPB's Member Information Services have received around 30 enquiries from members asking how they can comply with the new amendments to the Act, which will affect all businesses which provide a service to the public as well as those which employ people with disabilities.
Jane Davies, FPB's member contact manager, said: "The Disability Discrimination Act part III is a complex piece of legislation and we advise a common sense approach to dealing with the new requirements. For instance, improving accessibility in a premises can be achieved in the majority of cases at a relatively low cost."
