WILTSHIRE County Council is to undertake a review of the school meals service provided by French-based contractor Sodexho after complaints about value for money.
The council's overview and scrutiny management committee has agreed to set up a task group to review the school catering element of the contract with Sodexho, one of four set up in 2001 and supposed to run for seven years.
Monday's meeting of the committee was told that a major concern with the schools contract is that some of the schools that receive the service are questioning the value for money provided by Sodexho.
Schools complain that the £2,600 they have to pay over and above the cost of the meals themselves is too much, although they receive the money from county council funds. The cash is supposed to cover Sodexho's management costs and investment, and to ensure the contract remains viable.
