SENIOR Labour politicians are trying to blame the Iraq factor for their recent poor showing in both local and European elections.

While the war and its aftermath may have influenced some of the voters I think that the real reasons for the decline in the Labour vote can be found nearer to home.

We have council tax spiralling out of control, an immigration and asylum policy which is a complete shambles, more and more tax increases with little to show for them and a growing fear of European dominance over the mother of parliaments.

When, and only when, the Labour Government tackles these problems and listens to the voice of Joe Public will the situation for them improve.
