WHILST it is accepted over the years that Marlborough High Street is closed for various public events, little seems to have been learnt about traffic management or road safety.
The latest attempts for charter week were nothing more than a farce. The 'stop go' policy left everyone confused, drivers and traders alike.
Before the next event would it not be possible for traffic officers, police and other interested parties to agree a procedure which could become a standard for years to come?
Points such as clearly publishing in advance dates and times of closure, half days of stop and go only confuse visitors who have not had time to read the local paper, even if the information is published.
Signs could be clear and visible which has not been the case lately.
Since roads could be clearly closed with access only so that traders can go about their business and residential areas do not become rally routes for 4x4s.
Visitors would feel more welcome and safer.
And on a final note, now that the police have inspected our drains perhaps some of them will be cleared out and faulty manholes replaced.
