Last week the owner of the Manor Farm site in Urchfont, Mr Snook, put forward an application to develop the land.

A general consensus in the village is that the site as it is, is an eyesore. But, we are not prepared to exchange an eyesore for a monstrosity.

Such are the site plans as they stand at this point. Mr Snook is an intelligent man, I am led to believe, and I am sure that he will appreciate that the site in question is one of character forming part of a landscape that is quintessentially the English country village.

Rather than being yet another infill plot, the design must work in harmony with its environment.

Has he not considered the damage that such a development would cause? The 22 new houses could have on average two cars each 44 extra cars thundering through the centre of a small area is an intolerable increase and one that should never be allowed to happen.

There would also be the extra service vehicles, not to mention the congestion the initial building work would incur.

Some critics of this letter may argue that at 19, I really have no right to speak out. But those people must realise that it will be my generation who shall be forced to live with the mistake that the planners have made.

And therefore it is for the future inhabitants of Urchfont that I stand up to be counted, and say this application must not be approved.
