15372A WESTBURY man was shocked and honoured after his efforts were recognised at the People of Wiltshire awards.
Cllr Charlie Finbow, 42, of Oldfield Park, Westbury, received the Good Neighbour award.
Mr Finbow is a full-time carer for his disabled wife, Janet, and is also the chairman of Westbury Junior School governors.
He is a well-known point of contact for the community and helps those who are unable to help themselves.
An example was when a parent from Westbury with a disabled child was finding it difficult to communicate with the school and Mr Finbow accompanied the parent to explain to her what the school was trying to get across.
He also helped a woman who had just moved to the area and was having trouble with bullying and abuse from a neighbour.
Mr Finbow set up Westbury Junior School's computer club and now volunteers as their IT technician.
The club is now also open to local people, thanks to his help.
He is generally regarded in the area as the person to go to if anyone needs help, but he was modest about what he does.
He said: "You just do what you do, really. I don't like talking about myself but it was a great honour to get the award that I was not expecting.
"It is humbling to be chosen among all these other people who have done such great things.
"It is great that people appreciate what I do, but I was not doing it for any awards. But I am really thrilled to get it."
