PARENTS worried about a proposed school merger in Melksham are being consulted on the plans.
Wiltshire County Council has proposed a shake-up of education in the east of the town, with three schools set to become two.
Consultation documents sent to parents suggest Lowbourne Infants School extends its age range to become a primary school and Lowbourne Junior and St Michael's Primary merge to form another primary school.
The documents says: "Evidence indicates that the rate of improvement in attainment of children in primary schools is greater than for children in pairs of infant and junior schools."
If plans go ahead the site of one of the two schools to merge would be sold to fund extensions and improvements at the others.
Many parents have already raised concerns at the proposal, with those whose children are due to change schools next year, when the changes would begin, concerned that children may have to move twice.
Two of the schools involved, Lowbourne Junior and St Michael's, are in special measures after failing Ofsted reports.
Parents have until September 1 to respond to the council's proposals and meetings for parents of children at all three schools will be held at the Assembly Rooms on June 29 and July 1 from 7pm.
