I am writing to suggest that we change the name of Trowbridge to 'Tescobridge'.
The company came here some years ago and built a monstrosity on the edge of our beautiful park. They decided that was insufficient for their needs so were permitted to build an even bigger monstrosity on our local swimming pool site. The former has been left virtually derelict since.
A bypass was then built alongside the new building and a roundabout installed with lights. This obviously didn't facilitate customers being able to get into the store quickly enough to spend their money so they were provided with a set of lights on the bypass, solely to enable easy access to the store. These lights benefit no one except Tesco.
I can't see Aldi being afforded the same courtesy although entrance to their store is far more difficult. Anyone living in my area needing to drive into town now has to negotiate seven roundabouts and four sets of traffic lights.
It appears to me that the Tesco store has succeeded in closing down numerous small shops, butchers, and bakers in the area and their tentacles are now grabbing many small stores in the town. Even then, they are not prepared to take on the responsibility of the post offices which provide an important service to the community. I can only presume that they do not provide enough revenue to make them worthwhile to the company.
I have never written such a letter before but I am astonished that we sit back and allow the greed of such a company to destroy the heart of a community.
