On Monday I sat in and spoke on the County Council's scrutiny committee when they discussed Sodexho and that infamous Fit to Eat program.
I said how, in 2001, the older people's day care centres and luncheon clubs were pressed to take the Sodexho factory meals but, thankfully, were able to find alternative sources after discovering what the meals were like.
The Sodexho representatives told us that CCTV has now been installed in its factory, how 12 members of staff were suspended and a member of the committee told how she was taken round parts of the factory by minders, finding those parts of the factory that she saw were extremely clean. A very good report from both parties, but I think it was altogether unconvincing, and I don't think anyone else was convinced either.
I went home thinking how glad I was that Studley Green Day Care Centre, along with most of the other older people's luncheon clubs and day care centres in Wiltshire, had managed to contract out.
I really do wish County Hall would let us get our food from the schools like we used to!
