EURO 2004: DEDICATED fan Terri Clarke was one of the army of English fans in Lisbon.
The 44-year-old, from Abbey Meads, shared England's agony with her husband Neil, 38, and son Bradley, eight.
She said: "We thought that if we put in another performance like we did against Croatia, we would get through.
"And at first it looked as if we would make it.
"When Owen scored, the place went berserk.
"We just shouted 'He's done, it, he's done it'.
"The noise was deafening, there were definitely more English fans than Portuguese.
"During the penalties, the atmosphere was very tense.
"There were gasps as Beckham missed the first penalty.
"When it was over, the Portuguese went absolutely mad.
"The noise was incredible. Everyone was covered in flags, beeping their horns and singing at the tops of their voices.
"As far as I'm concerned, I'm going to have a large gin and tonic and look forward to the World Cup."
