A plaque was unveiled and 100 balloons launched to mark the opening of Trowbridge's newest nursery.
Mayor Grace Hill cut the ribbon at the official opening of Green Shoots Day Nursery on Friday.
West Wiltshire MP Dr Andrew Murrison and Wiltshire County Council vice-chairman Anthony Moore were among the guests.
The 77-place nursery, on the site of Studley Green Primary School, opened last month after eight-months of building work, but celebrations were reserved until the official ceremony.
Funded by a £100,000 grant from Wiltshire County Council and a £389,000 Lottery grant, the nursery is designed to give single parents and low-income families reduced cost childcare facilities.
Government minister Margaret Hodge sent a good luck message.
"I wish Green Shoots every success. Giving children access to high quality care, early education and support is helping to improve their life chances," she said.
"Good affordable childcare also enables parents to take up work, education and training and this has a knock-on effect in reducing child poverty."
Steve Wigley, headteacher at Studley Green Primary School, said: "Not only will it make a big difference to our school but also make a major contribution to the Studley Green community."
