THE SHAPE OF SWINDON: DEMOLITION work to transform a disused town centre building into luxury apartments should be complete by mid-July.
Builders moved onto the former Nationwide site at the junction of Princes Street and Beckhampton Street in March.
The Atrium building will be demolished to make way for 199 executive-style flats. The project should be complete by Spring 2007 with the first occupations in early autumn 2005
The development, which will also include a health and fitness suite, restaurant and 16,000 sq ft of commercial space, will be renamed Paramount and apartments are expected to fetch between £100,000 and £250,000.
The scheme was approved by town planners before Christmas last year and is key to New Swindon Company's vision.
The organisation is charged with rejuvenating the centre of town.
One of the ways it hopes to do that is by transforming old brownfield sites into attractive residential areas.
