Chewing gum is being removed from Wootton Bassett's historic High Street.
Wootton Bassett Town Council decided to take action after new York stone paving became covered with gum within months of it being laid. The council is working with North Wiltshire District Council to fund the removal of the gum
It is employing Calne Town Council, which owns a steam-cleaning machine, to carry out the work on the town council's behalf.
The work has been scheduled for 10 consecutive Sundays to try and minimise disruption on trading days. The cleaning machine should take no more than 30 minutes to get past each individual premises.
North Wiltshire District Council installed the York stone paving in the High Street as part of £100,000 street enhancements.
