RARE avocado urinals from the 1970s have been passed to a toilet museum to preserve them for posterity.

The urinals' move to Tyford Toilet Museum was revealed at the opening of the refurbished Sally Pussey Inn in Wootton Bassett.

The pub, named after a legendary landlady, has been extended and re-furbished.

The old urinals have been replaced with a new toilet block, providing better access to people with disabilities.

The urinals, which are made of fine Wedgwood, are collector's items.

Norah Thomas and business partner Mike Randall have managed the mid-19th century pub for three years. Norah said: "We wanted to make it more airy and open it out. We want to keep serving our existing customers as well as attract new ones. We get a lot of motorway trade."

The new-look pub was officially re-launched this week by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire Sir Maurice Johnston.

Sarah Purse was the licensee of the Wheatsheaf Inn on the Swindon Road in Wootton Bassett until she passed away in 1885.

In the early 1970s, her legend was revived when the Wheatsheaf was re-named the Sally Pussey's Inn.

Around 20 of her descendants are to have lunch at the pub this weekend.
