HOW will building more houses on the Front Garden help the parents in Abbey Meads who have lost their battle to send their children to the nearest primary school?
How are we supposed to develop self-contained communities that are not car dependent if new residents are given nothing but homes?
The Northern Development Area of Swindon should have been completed by 2001. Not half of the 9,000 planned dwellings have been built. Building 4,500 homes on the Front Garden will dilute the effect and delay the completion further.
I am representing Swindon Friends of the Earth at the public hearing of the Wiltshire Structure Plan when more countryside around Swindon is being earmarked for thousands more houses. In the meantime, houses are being bull-dozed in the north as job-seekers move south to find work. Insane, or what?
