PURTON are still deeply involved in this year's county competitions despite being beaten in the double fours.
In the triples, Ian Williams beat Doug Thompson in a tight contest by two shots, Miles Roberts staged a tremendous comeback to beat Mel Selby (Westlecot) by three shots, while Les Gingell won away very convincingly against Ian Wilmot (Town Gardens).
However, the club's best result was achieved by the trio of Mark Wadsworth, Chris Cheesley and Ray Sowden.
In a tight game they defeated Westlecot's Mel Biggs, Neil Hope and Mark Dyer, who reached the last four at Worthing in the 2003 triples competition.
Dyer won the first four ends to open up a six-shot lead, but was pulled back to 9-9 after 14 ends. Over the final four ends Sowden's triple collected scores of 2,1,1,1 to run out 14-9 victors.

n WILTSHIRE were beaten in their annual challenge match against the Wiltshire Vice Presidents, who triumphed 119-104.5.at Wroughton.
