Ref. 31101-17 CHILDREN from Wroughton are getting ready for this year's village carnival next month.
Joshua Legg and Maxime Perrot, both 10, who attend Wroughton Junior School, were nominated to be this year's Carnival Prince and Princess at a disco.
The two, both from Wroughton, will play a star role in the carnival following the judging, which saw them take on eight other pupils from different classes.
Maxime, who wants to be an author when she grows up, said: "I have been going to the carnival since I was three and I am really excited about this year."
Joshua, who wants to be an artist when he leaves school, said: "I think this will give me lots of confidence. The teachers are really proud of us, it was a surprise for everyone."
Andrew Henstridge, deputy head of the school said: "A lot of the children wanted to take part in the competition. It is great for the school and great for the community."
Both children received a special cup, as well as a posy of flowers for the princess and a buttonhole for the prince.
Haskins Garage, one of the sponsors, presented a shield to the school, and photography firm Olan Mills, a fellow sponsor, is giving the children vouchers for photographic sessions.
This year's carnival is being held on Saturday, July 10, with events on the Weir Field at noon, followed by the spectacular procession at 2pm.
Entry to the Weir Field will cost £1 from noon to 6pm and £2 after 6pm.
