ADDING to the debate on speed cameras (EA June 16), there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the Wiltshire Constabulary is using them deliberately as a money-raising device.

After 50 years of driving all sorts of vehicles (two, four and six wheels), in all weather conditions and round both rural and urban areas without so much as a hint of any traffic offence, in the space of three months I have been targeted for two minor violations by cameras.

Now these might have been understood if they had been at the height of the commuter rush, the weekday white van tearaway mid-day snack time, or Saturday night boy racer period but no both of these were in the God Slot of 10 to 11am Sunday morning in areas where traffic was less than minimal and mostly drivers of families going about their Sabbath business at a relaxed pace!

Hardly the time to fulfil the police stated intent that cameras are switched on at times to catch the persistent offenders.

As a law abiding citizen I will pay up grudgingly.
