PENHILL residents have the chance to make dreams of a new adventure playground become a reality.

Campaigners want to build the £80,000 facility at Seven Fields Park.

The park's paddling pool closed several years ago because of vandalism, and parents frequently complain that the estate lacks recreation facilities.

Now a community action group called Twist is hoping to usher in a new era of better play equipment.

Parents can have their say about the plans at a meeting next week.

Coun Andy Harrison (Lab Penhill) said that parental support was vital if the scheme is to succeed.

"We desperately need ideas and help," he added.

"People often complain that there is nothing for youngsters to do well, here is your chance to do something about it.

"Recreation facilities on the estate are poor, which leads to bored youngsters and anti-social behaviour problems."

The project is being guided by play workers at Swindon Council.

They are keen for youngsters to get involved.

Children have already made suggestions for equipment at a series of workshops.

The scheme is based on a play area in Wrexham, Wales, which has helped reduce vandalism and unruly behaviour.

It is hoped that funding will come from the Lottery's New Opportunity Fund and the Gov-ernment's Children's Fund.

The meeting starts at 6pm on Tuesday, July 6, in St Peter's Church, Penhill Drive.
