CAMPAIGNERS look set to win their fight to reduce the speed limit along Spin Hill in Market Lavington.

Following pressure from local people and Michael Lynch, the father of 34-year-old Sharon Oliver who was killed in a car crash on Spin Hill in April 2003, Wiltshire County Council is proposing to reduce the 60mph speed limit.

The council is proposing to change the limit to 30mph from the roundabout at Canada Rise to the end of the housing and a 40mph limit to the top of Spin Hill and down Ledge Hill.

After hearing that some residents wanted the 30mph limit extended along the whole of Spin Hill, Market Lavington Parish Council is to ask the county council to consider making that amendment.

Sharon Charity, a parish councillor who organised a 220-signature petition which she presented to the county council last December, said: "We are delighted that the speed limit looks set to be reduced on this dangerous piece of road and that will make life a lot safer for residents living in Spin Hill and for motorists."
