With the recent press coverage regarding the Saturday Specials I feel that it is important that I write an open letter in response.

I have been employed at Marlborough Leisure Centre for 16 years, the last 11 years as a trampoline coach.

It is solely because of the enjoyment, enthusiasm and recognition by the young trampolinists at Marlborough Leisure Centre to help children less able than themselves that 'Jump for Fun' was first established and why it has been so successful in helping to raise money for children's charities.

Since our first fundraising event for Children First International in April 1999, 'Jump for Fun' has successfully raised nearly £8,000.

Last year we supported the Saturday Specials with two very successful fundraising events including a trampoline competition.

The monies raised were far beyond our expectation and a Saturday

Specials trustee account was opened to ensure the money solely benefited the children to whom it was intended.

Many new items and play equipment were purchased and we extend our gratitude and thanks to the children who participated, their families and friends and local businesses who gave so generously.

Equally, I would like to thank Marlborough Leisure Centre for their full support and kind co-operation for enabling 'Jump for Fun' to be the success that it is.

It therefore causes me sadness at how recent events have unfolded and I hope that the staff directly involved with the Saturday Specials continue the wonderful work that they do with these young people, realise how appreciated they are and are rewarded with the support they so richly deserve.
