NOREMARSH School were crowned champions at the latest Wootton Bassett TAG Cup rugby tournament.

They won all six of their matches at the Stoneover Lane event last week, including a 4-3 victory over reigning title holders Longleaze.

The Noremarsh A side also managed a 6-5 triumph over St Barts A, a 4-2 win over the St Barts second string, a 4-2 victory over Wanborough A, plus 7-2 and 7-5 wins over their own B team and Marlborough A respectively.

But the other real winner was TAG rugby, which continues to go from strength to strength.

More than 75 children took part in the competition, which was sponsored by the rugby club.

Organiser Mark Roshier, who was also Wootton Bassett 1st XV skipper last season, said: "There were a couple of schools that could not take part for various reasons, but it was another very successful day.

"Even though, they may have seen the game being played on television, a lot of kids have come into the game through the TAG route.

"In the last 12 months, the club has had a massive influx of players."

All the participating schools there were five in all tasted at least one victory on the day.

And Roshier hopes to increase the number of schools taking part in the next tournament, which will take place in October..
