AN AGE aware company has won an award in recognition of its positive attitude to employing older people.
Trowbridge company Wilts Wholesale Electrical was presented with an Age Positive Award at a London ceremony by TV presenter Lorraine Kelly and minister for pensions Malcolm Wicks.
The UK-wide search for winners, backed by the Wiltshire Times, meant Wilts Wholesale Electrical had to beat more than 165 other entrants.
The company's oldest employee, Ted King, 67, who works at their Camberley branch, also took an award.
Managing director of the Trowbridge company, David Purdon, said: "We are delighted. We are a company that prides itself in diversity as far as employment is concerned and we certainly do not judge employees on their age. We do have a lots of people who have worked with us for a long time but we also have some people who have joined us in their 50s."
The company, which supplies electrical products across England and Wales, was praised by Sam Mercer, director of Employers Forum on Age and judge for the England awards.
Wilts Wholesale Electrical is a family business, set up in Trowbridge in 1925. It now has 45 branches.
