COMMUNITY radio in Warminster is fighting for its existence after a government Bill tabled last week promises sweeping changes to regional airwaves.
Final amendments to the Order for Community Radio places restrictions on regions where an audience of less than 50,000 are already served by a local commercial station.
The Bill means Warminster Community Radio would not be granted a full broadcasting licence and will have to fold.
Project director Barry Mole said: "We are fighting this for our very existence. It feels like a slap in the face and I'm sure the Government are not yet aware of the devastation this will cause us."
Government statistics reveals regional commercial station 3TRFM serves less than 50,000 listeners meaning a community station will now not be permitted.
Warminster Community Radio promotes adult education and holds training workshops with school children.
