A MAN with one arm and leg who hopes to raise £1m by walking from Lands End to John o' Groats received a hero's welcome when he arrived in Bradford on Avon on Thursday.
Chris Moon, a 42-year-old former army officer, was injured in a landmine explosion in Mozambique in 1995.
Despite having an artificial leg he plans to walk more than 1,000 miles in 25 days to raise money for disabled charity Leonard Cheshire.
Hilperton firm Action Information Management has already raised £5,049 and 35 members of staff joined Mr Moon on the Hilperton to Bath stretch of his route.
AIM also provided a tracking device a mobile phone with GPS which Mr Moon has used on the walk.
Members of the Falcon parachute display team from RAF Lyneham also turned out to lend their support, joining Mr Moon on the Bradford on Avon to Bath stretch.
Scores of patients and staff from the Kington Langley branch of Leonard Cheshire put on a welcome party.
Heather Holland, day care and activities co ordinator, said: "Nobody can fail to be moved by the depth of the challenge."
Mr Moon said: "I am keen to show that disabled people have dreams and aspirations like the rest of the population and that we can all achieve our goals, given the right opportunities and support."
