FIVE phone boxes could disappear from Trowbridge streets as BT struggles to cope with the rising use of mobile phones.
Residents have until the end of July to object to the firm's decision to remove call boxes from Broad Street, West Ashton Road, Cedar Grove, Wilton Drive and Whiterow Park.
BT has been undertaking a nationwide review of public payphone provision since April 2002, with the programme due to run into 2005.
The number of calls from BT phone boxes has almost halved in the last three years, with mobile phones blamed for the decline.
Out of 72,000 phone boxes across Britain, only 30,000 are making a profit.
There are 32 payphones across Trowbridge and BT wants to slash that number to 27.
Anyone wanting to object can send comments to the planning department at West Wiltshire District Council before July 31.
