OLDER people in Swindon are being encouraged to take up the challenge of caving, gorge walking and canoeing.
Twenty-four people are sought to prove they are not past their prime by joining a week-long course at Plas Pencelli outdoor pursuits centre in the Brecon Beacons.
The activity week, organised by Swindon Council's Lifestyle Development Team, is targeted at mature people in their 50s and 60s and those who prefer less intensive activity sessions. "It's important to stay fit and healthy and there's no reason why older people should not try new and exciting activities like this," said a Swindon Council spokeswoman.
"This week offers them the chance to participate in the kind of activities they might only have dreamed of."
The course runs from Sunday, August 29 to Saturday, September 4 and costs £299.40, or £230 with a Swindon Card.
Transport to and from Wales, food, accommodation, activities, instruction and use of specialist equipment are all included in the price.
Plas Pencelli is known as Swindon's own outdoor education centre, having given hundreds of the town's children, parents and grandchildren the chance to get involved in outdoor activities since it opened 40 years ago.
