Ref. 31148-03NATIONWIDE employees will today prove they never "tyre" of raising cash for charity.
Around 130 fundraisers are hoping to smash the world record for tyre rolling.
To beat the current record, held by a group of Canadians, they need to roll more than 81 car tyres for a distance of 100-metres.
Besides rolling their way into the record books, the fundraisers hope to raise hundreds of pounds for the Evening Advertiser-backed Swindon Cancer Appeal.
Guinness Book of Records officials will oversee the bid, which is taking place outside the finance giant's Pipers Way headquarters.
Steve Cowdry, spokesman for Nationwide, said: "They will be rolling the tyres by hand, and if they lose control they will be disqualified.
"Staff are always encouraged to support good causes, and this is something a bit different.
"It's a team-building event, which was dreamed up by staff in our account administration department.
"We are hoping to drag one or two directors along too." Staff managed to persuade Michelin to provide the tyres.
Nationwide has been a major supporter of the cancer appeal, donating more than £100,000.
So far, the appeal has raised £389,365 to improve cancer services in the Swindon area.
