Three people died and a number more were injured in several separate accidents on Wiltshire's roads over the weekend.

In Swindon, motorcyclist Malcolm Duffey, 55, was taken to hospital with back injuries following an accident in Croft Road, Old Town, on Saturday.

Mr Duffey, who was riding a silver Peugeot 125cc, was hit by a blue Mitsubishi Galant shortly after overtaking a bus at around 10.30am.

The car was pulling out of a driveway. The driver was not injured. Mr Duffey was discharged at 1.30pm later that day.

A 23-year-old man from North Wiltshire died yesterday morning when the maroon Ford Escort he was driving left the A420 at Ford, near Chippenham, and hit a tree.

The male passenger, also believed to be in his 20s, suffered severe injuries and was taken to Bath's Royal United Hospital.

On Friday, a 77-year-old woman from Exeter died after her car left the A303 at Mere, in the south of the county, and overturned several times. Police said the woman, identified as Gertrude Whitburn, was overtaking in her Daewoo car at noon.

And a soldier died when he was in a collision with a 38-tonne truck on the A303, near Amesbury, at 3.40am on Saturday. He is believed to have been walking along the road towards Bulford when the accident happened. The lorry driver was taken to hospital suffering from shock.

A coach carrying more than 40 passengers, some elderly, crashed off the A303 at Winterbourne Stoke at 1pm on Saturday. Police said some passengers, who were travelling from Exeter towards London, suffered minor injuries.
