It is with interest that I read the headline Tories renege on their word on June 18.
This isn't the first time it has happened and possibly will not be the last.
In 1973 it was the turn of the Independent group to nominate a mayor.
They put forward Alderman Margaret Leckie. The Tories then changed their mind at the vote and installed another Tory as mayor.
The following year Mrs Leckie resigned, saying the two parties were in-fighting and she didn't wish to be a part of it. Has anything changed in 30 years?
The office of mayor is non-political but the Tories are politicising it. Maybe the opposition will vote against another Tory Mayor.
I have not trusted the word of the Tory party since 1973. Many other residents have long memories too.
