A CHARITY for homeless people has attacked measures to drive vagrants out of Swindon town centre car parks.
Chris Offord of The Filling Station, which operates from offices in Wroughton, has hit out at comments made by Coun Jemima Milton (Con, Chiseldon and Wroughton).
She told the Evening Advertiser that Operation Daventry, which led to 11 recent arrests at multi-storey car parks in Fleming Way and Brunel West, was a big success. But Mr Offord claims her comments were "complacent" and believes council and police bosses are not addressing the real issue.
"Those arrested were released without their possessions, which had been lost in the process," he said.
"Until a hostel is provided where those under the influence of alcohol and or drugs can seek shelter, arrests are not going to help. Arrests are not going to cure their addiction."
As previously reported, Threshold Housing Link have tried in vain for six years to open such a hostel.
