The Lava Lounge club in Swindon's Fleet Street in the town centre is seeking to expand.
It wants to merge with an empty shop next door to create a bigger seating area on the ground floor and bigger toilet facilities on the first floor.
Councillors will determine whether to allow the plan at a meeting tomorrow at the Civic Offices in Euclid Street at 7pm.
Lib Dem councillor Michael Dickinson (Central) is objecting to the expansion.
He said there were already enough bars and clubs in the area and residents were concerned about noise and damage to property.
"There's already trouble in the town centre and having been down there and seen some of the bars empty, there is a question over whether the Lava Lounge needs more space," he said.
"There are enough drinking establishments in town for all tastes and a lot of residents in my ward would be very unhappy to see more or bigger bars."
Coun Dickinson said he would prefer to see more shops in the town centre and called for a halt to further development or expansion of bars and clubs.
