A DUCK in distress is continuing to evade capture from would-be rescuers at a Swindon beauty spot.
Mavis Price, 58, of Barrington Close, Liden contacted the Evening Advertiser after spotting the bird in a flutter on the banks of Liden Lagoon.
The duck had become entangled in a plastic drinks tab, making it hard for it to eat.
Mrs Price called in the South West Swan Sanctuary, which is based in Shrivenham Road, but even they admit to drawing a blank.
Now the determined dog walker has obtained a cage from a local veterinary surgery.
"Every time the duck saw the net he flew off," said Mrs Price.
"So we have decided to try and tempt him into a cage instead."
On Saturday she and her husband came close to catching the duck, after using some bread as bait.
Unfortunately, it seems the duck is more cunning than anyone realised.
"He got as far as the cage but then strayed away he's very suspicious," she said.
Sue Hulbert, of the registered charity, promised the duck would be caught.
Previously, she explained just how slippery ducks can be.
"People think that it's easy to catch a duck in a net but it's not."
The Coate Water ranger used the case to remind visitors to beauty spots to take their rubbish home with them.
