BOX Rovers came out on top in their first ever six-a-side tournament played in sweltering conditions on Sunday.
The Leafy Lane playing fields saw 24 teams play 77 games of knockout football, organised by Box official Tony Harrison.
He said: "It was blistering hot and there was nowhere to escape the sun. Many players were suffering with fatigue by the end of a long day."
The teams came from the Chippenham and District Sunday, Trowbridge and District and the Bath and District Saturday and Sunday Leagues.
The teams were put into small leagues of four with the top two progressing into the final, which was fought out between Box Rovers, from the Chippenham and District Sunday League and Rudloe FC of the Trowbridge and District league.
Box came out on top with a 2-0 victory.
The semi-final losers competed for the SA Lye News Shield, which was won by Corsham Cricket Club. They beat CCB United 1-0.
The event was run to raise funds for Box Rovers Football Club and Harrison hopes there will be a repeat next year. He said: "It should run next year but it did take a lot of organising."
There were staff from the St John ambulance brigade present but fortunately they had a quiet day. Harrison said: "There were a couple of mild ligament injuries and sprains but no one was seriously injured.''
