THE goalkeeping position at Calne Town was a constant source of concern for Kelvin Highmore last season and it is now causing him sleepless nights again.

The Calne manager was forced to use six different keepers last season and he now faces a different dilemma about who to put between the posts.

Former Highworth Town goalkeeper Paul Haines played the 90 minutes in Calne's 6-0 win at RAF Lyneham while Dave Hunt, Darryl Simms and Nick Evans are also competing for the number one shirt.

Highmore admitted he has some thinking to do and will talk to the goalkeepers about their fate early next week.

He said: "It is a good problem to have but I don't want to mess any of them around. It may be that I have to let one of them go but let's wait and see.

"The goalkeeping position has certainly given me a few headaches but I am sure it will work out as we have three very good keepers."

Calne enjoyed a mix week after losing 2-0 to Bournemouth Poppies on Saturday but then hammering Lyneham 6-0 on Tuesday night.

Tuesday's scorers were Matt Pratley (2), James Lye, an own goal, Glenn Armstrong and a superbly worked goal by Darren Smart.

With Smart set to commit himself to the club for the coming season and James Lye also confirming he is staying at the club, Highmore is in buoyant mood about the coming season.

He said: "Things are looking good at the moment. I was a bit worried when Smarty looked like leaving but with him staying we should have good competition for places.

"With Tim Tasker and Simon Gardiner joining from Biddestone, we have central defenders coming out of our ears now which means we can be a bit more flexible during games.

"Last season we always played a rigid 4-4-2 and perhaps we lost some games because of that but with the players we have this season we can change the formation around a bit."

Calne entertain Wootton Bassett tomorrow.
