IN the space of just two weeks Lee Burns has gone from being Wiltshire's forgotten man to the top of a number of clubs' most wanted list.
The 37-year-old defender admitted he was thinking about quitting the game this summer due to a lack of interest in his services, but the past fortnight has proved he still has something to offer.
He has already played pre-season matches for Westbury United and Larkhall Athletic and this week he has received offers from Trowbridge Town and Melksham Town, leaving him with a difficult decision to make.
He said: "After I left Odd Down at the end of last season I was beginning to think that was it for me because no one seemed very interested. Now suddenly it has all turned round and the phone hasn't stopped ringing from clubs who say they want me for this season.
"I didn't think there would be all this attention for a 37-year-old and although it is flattering it is also very confusing because I don't know what to do."
Burns, who captained Chippenham to the FA Vase final in 2000, said last week he faced a choice between Westbury and Larkhall, but with Trowbridge and Melksham now entering the race for his signature he is still a long way from deciding who to play for.
He said: "I was speaking to Melksham manager Nigel Tripp and he said he wanted me because there were not many players around these days who can lead a team like I used to.
"It seems they all want me for my leadership skills and my talking on the pitch and I am further away from making a decision than I was a week ago.
"There are so many different things going round in my head because every side has advantages and disadvantages.
"One problem is I have not got any transport at the moment and Trowbridge would involve a lot of travelling. Larkhall and Westbury would be best for practical reasons from my home in Bath and I have also played for both of them."
Burns was due to play for Larkhall last night before deciding whether to play for Westbury in tomorrow's friendly at home to Odd Down.
He said: "Friday might be decision day for me but then saying that I expect I will still be thinking about it this time next week. It is very nice to have four clubs interested in me but in all honesty I wish just one club had come in for me to make it easier."
