The civil war in the Darfur region of Sudan has led to a huge humanitarian crisis. Civilians, particularly women and children, have been terrorised. As many as 30,000 have been killed and a million forced to flee their homes.
Thousands lack clean drinking water. WaterAid is an international Non-Government Organisation.
Its aim is to provide fresh, clean water. As an NGO, WaterAid relies heavily on fundraising and donations in order to continue its vital work.
The United Nations has ordered the Sudanese government to bring the Janjaweed Arab militias, accused of the attacks, under control, within 30 days or face further action.
