Traders fear that if permission is granted for another takeaway in Clive Parade it could take away their business.
The owners of Oriental Express Chinese Takeaway and Sammy's Kebab and Burger House have objected to proposals to allow an additional fast food outlet as part of the area's redevelopment scheme.
There are already three in Clive Parade and the owners say that when they signed their tenancy agreement they were guaranteed that no other fast food operations would be allowed to open in the road.
Eunice Young, the manager of the Oriental Express, said that she might face bankruptcy if another takeaway was allowed to squeeze her profits further. "Business in summer time is very bad because people are away," she said.
"At the moment I don't have enough to pay my suppliers.
"If another outlet is allowed it will be difficult for traders here."
Other objections to the redevelopment scheme, which includes plans for six shops in total, have been submitted by Cricklade Road residents.
They fear there will be problems with litter and groups of youths hanging about outside the shops.
The decision on whether to allow another takeaway will be made by Swindon councillors at a planning meeting this evening.
