WILTSHIRE'S senior over 50 side suffered two defeats at the hands of Hampshire and the Channel islands.

Wiltshire won the toss against Hampshire, and after a cautious start, the first 20 overs realised 53 runs for the loss of two wickets. Warley with 36 was the mainstay of the score.

With only Geoff Edwards adding 41 in his usual manner, Wiltshire closed their innings on a disappointing 174-8.

After tea, Hampshire cruised to an eight-wicket victory with 10 overs to spare, with Swain unbeaten on 61.

Against the Channel Islands at Trowbridge, Wilts won the toss and put the visitors in. Although the depleted home attack, with three front line bowlers unavailable, picked up two early wickets, it was not too long before the Islanders took full advantage and ran up a formidable total of 278-5.

In reply, the Wiltshire openers started at a quick pace, with 35 runs coming off just eight overs. But with the departure of both in quick succession, the Islanders' strong bowling attack took control.

With the next 24 overs bringing only 55 runs for the loss of four more wickets, Wiltshire were hopelessly positioned at 90-6 with just 13 overs to go. A late flurry by Gwyn Blenkinsop (32 not out) and John Mitchell with 24 added some respectability to the score as Wiltshire closed their innings on 154-7, leaving the 2004 champions worthy winners by 124 runs.
