Ref. 71693-67Between the storms, Swindon youngsters have been making the most of the summer holidays, out in the fresh air at Lydiard Park, Barbury Castle and other local beauty spots.
For the more adventurous, Lydiard Park offers play areas and obstacle courses on soft bark chippings to keep the youngsters safe.
Barbury Castle on the edge of the Marlborough Downs is another prime Wiltshire attraction. The country park attracts nature-lovers, including walkers, cyclists, horse-riders and kite enthusiasts.
The main focal points in the park are the Iron Age hill fort, which covers around 12 acres.
Chief executive of Swindon Council Simon Birch said: "Swindon Borough Council manages lots of lovely countryside areas but I think Lydiard Park really is the jewel in the Council's crown.
"There's something for everyone countryside walks, shady woodland, a fascinating old building, special events -and somewhere to enjoy a cup of tea or an ice cream."
The plans for restoring the 18th century landscape are coming along really well - it looks like we should be in a position to apply for lottery funding next year."
