GAZETTE & HERALD: THE award-winning Film @ The Pound is launching an exciting new season of films with plans afoot to run a 2005 Global Village Film Festival.

Film @ The Pound is an innovative non-profit making film society based at the Pound Arts Centre in Corsham.

Last year the first Global Village Film Festival was awarded the British Federation of Film Societies Community Award.

It also received a distinction in the Best New Film Society category.

The new season begins on September 10 with a screening of Girl With A Pearl Earring.

It will then continue with a film every month right through until next July.

The films will all be screened on a Friday at 8pm.

The 11-strong season includes films such as Groundhog Day from the USA, Son of the Bride from Argentina, and the renowned British film Dirty Pretty Things.

Membership costs £28 or £48 for a couple, but places are limited.

Existing members have priority booking until August 23.

Film @ The Pound is also supporting some other special film events.

These will include a screening of Like Water For Chocolate at Hartham Park on September 24. As a more unusual feature this will include a meal featuring dishes from the film.

An event for all the family will be held on November 14 at 4pm when the society will be screening Wind in the Willows.

The version will be the popular 1996 film by Terry Jones.

The Global Village Film Festival will take place from March 12 to 20 next year.

It will include a week of the best in world cinema, to be screened in Corsham and also in the surrounding villages.
