AFTER defeat last week, Biddestone's first team entertained Wootton Bassett and won by 8 runs in a close contest at Biddestone.
Batting first Biddestone batted staedily throughout, without ever taking full control. A middle order stand between Mike Lodder 61 and Phil Boore 32 enabled the home side to reach 182 for 8 from their 45 overs.
In reply, Wootton Bassett replied steadily,but the top four batsmen were back in the pavillion for 50 runs. A mid order stand of 70 put them back inthe game.
The visitors then went into the last two overs with one wicket standing, and 19 runs needed. Dwaine Perry's first two balls went for 6 and 4, giving the visitors the advantage.
A fantastic piece of fielding from Mike Lodder then ran out the backing up batsman to get Biddestone home by 8 runs.
Biddestone 2nds lost off of the last ball at Redmarley in a closely contested match.
Batting first, Biddestone scored 203 for 8. Sam Thornton scored 47 of the first 60 runs in a patnership with Sam Boor.
A middle order patnership between 14-year-old Josh Barnes 35 and James Taylor 24 formed a good base. Mike Tasker the hit 53 to give the visitors a closing total of 203 - 8.
Redmarley always batted steadily with the run rate in mind.
Although Sam Thornton bowled 13 overs for 35 runs, the other bowlers could not make any real penatration to take wickets.
The home side need a run off of the last ball to win and their skipper did just that.
